Makos Swim Team – Total Domination at Age Group Sectionals

Congratulations to all the Makos swimmers who competed at the 2019 ESSZ Age Group Sectionals this past weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. With ten individual qualifiers and three relay swimmers, the Makos scored a whopping 524 points and finished in 15th place. The Makos had five top ten finishers: Tate Bacon, Thomas Clayton, Madison Schmitz , Ben Walcott and David Walcott. Joshua Delos Santos finished 5th in the state of North Carolina in the 500 free, earning a Golden Ticket to the NC Select Camp in April. This is the fifth Golden Ticket for the Makos this season.  In addition to the individual success of the Makos the 10 & under boys relay teams finished 8th in the 200 medley relay and 9th in the 200 free relay.  The 13-14 boys relay teams finished 13th in the 400 free relay and 19th in the 400 medley relay.  Please see the details of each of our swimmers below.

Tate Bacon (14) competed in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Back, 200 Back (-1.60), 100 Fly, and 200 Fly(-1.03) and was on the 13-14 400 Free and Medley Relay teams. Tate qualified for 6 finals and had the following top 20 finishes: 50 Free (4th), 100 free (4th) 200 Free (13th), 100 Back (3rd), 200 Back (13th), and100 Fly (4th).

Thomas Clayton (10) competed in the 50 Free (-0.17), 100 Free, 50 Back, 100 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 100 IM (-0.92), and 200 IM. Thomas was on the the 10 & under 200 Free and Medley Relay teams. Thomas had the following top 20 finishes: 50 Back (4th), 100 Back (18th), and 50 Fly (20th).

Joshua Delos Santos (10) competed in the 50 free (-0.52), 100 Free (-0.24), 500 free (-4.32), 50 Breast (-0.15), 100 breast, 50 fly (-0.62), 100IM (-1.78), and 200IM (-4.01) and the 10 & under 200 Free and Medley Relay team. Josh had the following top 20 finishes: 50 free (16th), 100 free (18th), 500 free (19th), 50 breast (17th), 100 breast (17th), and 100IM (16th).

Ava Manners (10) competed in the 50 Free (-1.12). Ava finished 13th in the 50 free. This was Ava’s first Age Group Sectionals.

Nina Nugent (14) competed in the 50 Free and 100 Free.  This was Nina’s first Age Group Sectionals.

David Quaresma (14) competed in the 1000 Free, 1650 Free (-19.82) and 200 Fly (-1.24) and the 13-14 Free and Medley Relay teams. This was David’s first Age Group Sectionals. David finished 12th in the 1650 Free.

Madison Schmitz (10) competed in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free (-4.75), 500 Free (-3.59), 50 Back, 100 Back, 50 Fly (-0.42), and 100 IM (-1.49). Madison had the following top 20 finishes: 50 Free (3rd), 100 Free (8th), 200 Free (2nd), 500 Free (2nd), 50 Back (4th), 100 Back (1st), 50 Fly (6th), and 100 IM (6th).

Ben Walcott (12) competed in the 50 Free (-0.50), 500 Free (-6.25), 1000 Free (-14.39), 1650 Free, 50 Fly (-0.48), 100 Fly (-2.44), 200 Fly (-2.47), 100 IM (-0.65). Ben qualified for 3 finals and had the following top 20 finishes: 500 Free (8th), 1000 Free (12th), 1650 Free (9th),  50 Fly (19th), 100 Fly (6th), 200 Fly (2nd), and 100IM (16th).

David Walcott (14) competed in the 50 Free (-0.04), 100 Free (-0.21), 200 Free, 500 Free, 1000 Free, 1650 Free (-15.29), 100 Fly, 200 Fly (-0.38), and the 13-14 200 Free and Medley Relay teams. David qualified for 4 finals and had the following top 20 finishes: 100 Free (15th), 500 Free (16th), 1650 Free (3rd), 100 Fly (18th), and 200 Fly (8th).

Emily Wrenn (10) competed in the 50 Free. This was Emily’s first Age Group Sectionals.

William Clayton (13) competed on the 13-14 400 Free and 400 Medley Relay teams.

Noah Walcott (10) competed on the 10 & under 200 Free and 200 Medley Relay teams.

On March 7th-10th Makayla Ciancanelli represented the Makos at the Speedo ESSZ Spring Senior Sectionals in Cary, NC. Makayla competed in the 1000 Free, 200 Free, 500 Free, 1650 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly and 400IM.
